League of Legends- Alistar Guide
Posted by in Heroes of Newerth
The mightiest warrior ever to emerge from the minotaur tribes of the Great Barrier, Alistar defended his tribe from all of Valoran’s many dangers; that is, until the coming of the Noxian army. Alistar was lured from his village by the machinations of Keiran Darkwill, Baron Darkwill’s youngest son, and commander of the Noxian expeditionary force. When Alistar returned home, he found his village burning and his family slain. Bellowing with rage, he charged an entire regiment of Noxus’s elite, slaughtering them by the hundreds. Only the intervention of some of Noxus’s most skilled summoners checked Alistar’s rage. Brought in chains to Noxus, Alistar spent the intervening years as a gladiator pitted in endless battle for the entertainment of Noxus’s wealthy leaders. Alistar’s once noble soul slowly twisted, and he would have been lost to insanity if not for Ayelia, a young servant girl who befriended him and eventually arranged for his escape. Suddenly free, Alistar joined the newly-formed Institute of War as a champion, hoping to one day visit his final vengeance against Noxus and to find the girl who once again gave him hope.
Alistar is one of the first tanks in the LoL, which started out with very few pure tanks. Alistar has attributes that can make him a decent DPS but that is not the way to go with him. The more tank of a bull you are, the more chances you have of winning the game. Oh and yea, the thing with Alistar is that you would need to master his combo move to be able to tank well…you will understand as you read on..

As you can see, this bastard’s got one of the best attack damages in the whole game, both basic and per level. Moreover, he deals extra damage to turrets so you would think of going a mix of dps- don’t. Your job is a disruptor tank. You charge in, soak up all the damage they deal, do your combo and toss out one of theirs to rape and then its already a 4 on 5. The best Alistars I’ve seen do this.
Pulverize - Alistar smashes the ground, tossing all nearby enemies into the air. On landing, enemies take damage and are stunned.
Alistar smashes the ground, dealing 80/125/170/220/270 (+1) magic damage and tossing all nearby enemy units into the air, stunning them for the duration.
Cost 70/85/100/115/130 Mana Range 200
The best move you have got in the entire game. Perfect for initiating especially in close combat 3 on 3, or 2 on 2 as you will give your dps a head start in taking down the other guy. Getting AP build for Alistar would mean that this move will hurt a lot- I used to do that. However, I think that it would be better to get cooldown reduction as often times you would only be able to pulverize at the start of a teamfight and at the end- where it may be too late. It would be very useful to be able to dump in another stun mid way through the dog fight.
Headbutt - Alistar rams a target with his head, dealing damage and knocking the target back.
Alistar charges at an enemy and rams them dealing 90/140/190/245/300 (+1) magic damage and knocking them back (does not stun).
Cost 80/90/100/110/120 Mana Range 650
The main reason that this move even exists is the fact that it knocks champions back. This move deals almost non-existent damage and that is the very reason that going for an AP build with Alistar would be a waste. The one thing that you would have to do is to run in to your opponents and stun them, then pick the weakest one and go behind him and headbutt him to your teamates. Do not pop your ulti before that as they will simply back off. Without ulti they will think that they have a shot at killing the rampaging bull. Another reason why Alistar should go full health so that they would not be able to kill you before you headbutt someone. Once low health, you can then pop up your ulti and run back to your teamates. This is very useful for getting their main DPS out of the way.
Triumphant Roar - Alistar lets out a commanding war cry, instantly restoring health to himself and nearby friendly units for half the amount. Can be cast more often if nearby enemies are dying.
Instantly restore 60/90/120/150/180 (+0.4) health to himself and half of that value to surrounding allied units. Cooldown ticks down by 2 seconds each time a nearby enemy unit dies.
Cost 20/30/40/50/60 Mana Range 200
This is a series of mini-heals. Another very good reason to get cooldown reduction because in teamfights, where there are usually very little creeps to help reduce the cooldown of this ability. Everytime you see this ability, use it- the heal even tiny may just be what you will need to keep your team alive- small constant doses of heals.
Unbreakable Will - Alistar lets out a wild roar, gaining bonus damage, removing all debuffs on himself, and reducing incoming physical and magical damage for the duration.
Alistar gains 60/75/90 physical damage, and takes 75% reduced physical and magic damage for 6/7/8 seconds.
Cost 150/150/150 Mana Range 1
Whenever you are getting your anus penetrated, hit ur ulti- u are nearly impossible to kill.
Colossal Strength - Alistar deals 20/40/60% additional damage to turrets.
Pretty much useless since you have very minimal attack speed. Let your Dps take care of the pushing for you.
Recommended items
Do not get any of these items.
These items have one thing in common- mana. The thing with alistar is that he becomes pretty useless once he is out of mana- well isnt anyone? However, being the tank, you will most likely get your health to about 15-20% after a group fight so you might as well just teleport back to base and get full on everything. I would recommend going banshees since it gives you health, mana, magic res and the spell block passive. That should be enough to take care of all your mana needs.
The first item that you would need to get would be
Ruby Crystal so that you don’t die early on and you can build this up into banshees later. Then go for boots and build it up into mercurys treads
for its passive which becomes really useful- with banshess. This would mean that you would not have to get cleanse and you can substitute it for flash, ghost or ignite. Try then to save up for a giants belt
. Try and complete catalyst the protector
so that you can have your really vital mana and then build it up to banshees later on. Now try and focus into getting guardian angel
then complete your banshees
and then you can stack up on health like
sunfire cape, maybe get thornmail
if your opponents got some DPS. However, I recommend to get soul shroud
right after getting banshees for health and mana regen and cooldown reduction. You can get frozen heart
instead of thornmail for the cooldown reduction and to counter the opposing dps since it slows enemy attack speed by 20%
The treads, the banshees and the angel are imperative. I would recommend getting soul shroud for the health and then whatever items you get after that should depend on the enemies you are up against- either do something to counter their dps or simply stack up on sunfires – I would prefer a mix of both.
Runes and Masteries- You can get some attack speed and mana as it would really help since you dont buy items for these
Summoner spells- get flash and either ghost or ignite- run or flash into your opponents and do that combo move mentioned a while back- flash will really get them by surprise but is a bit risky- however it is really rewarding if you do pull it off.
Ability sequence- Q,W E Q Q R..then prioritize Q then E then R then W. Remember that headbutt does almost no damage at all.
